The Lee County Work Center houses county and state non-violent offenders that qualify as inmate workers. The inmates are sent out to work on different job assignments and are housed at the work center at night. Inmates are sent to the Lee Co. Agri-Center, Lee Co. Solid Waste, Lee Co. Bus Shop, Lee Co. Courthouse, and the Lee Co. Supervisors.
The Work Center also operates two crews that pick up litter on state and county roads in Lee County. One crew works on State Highways on a daily basis. The Mississippi Department of Transportation reimburses the county for our mileage plus $10.00 an hour for the officer's salary while working this detail. The other crew works on county roads picking up trash. In 2006, 48.43 tons were picked up from the roadways.
Services Offered:
The public can call their Supervisor or the Work Center to have a road added to the list to be cleaned up. The Supervisors request certain roads in their district to be cleaned. Normally these are high traffic roads or roads that citizens have called them about. The Work Center rotates from district to district to try and keep all supervisor districts cleaned.
