Sheriff Jim H. Johnson began his law enforcement career at age 19. Throughout his career, he has learned the value of treating people with fairness, honesty and respect. Sheriff Johnson was elected in 2003 to his first term in office. Prior to being elected, he served in many capacities:

1982 - 1989    Verona Police Department

                    Dispatcher                1982 - 1984

                    Patrol Officer            1984 - 1987

                    Patrol Supervisor       1987 - 1989

1989 - 2001    Lee County Sheriff's Department

                    Patrol Deputy            1989 - 1993

                    Patrol Supervisor       1993 - 1994

                    Criminal Investigator  1994 - 2001

                    Interim Sheriff           2001

2002 - 2003    Office of the Attorney General

                    Investigator               2002 - 2003

2004 -            Lee County Sheriff's Department

                     Sheriff                     2004 - present

                     2005 Appointed by Gov. Barbour to serve on the Board of Minimum Standards

 

Sheriff Johnson has one daughter. They are members of First Baptist Church in Tupelo, MS.

 

Sheriff Johnson enjoys all types of sports, skiing, and camping.
