The chaplain is the first chaplain that meets the needs of the staff and the victims of crimes. This program is a top priority for Sheriff Johnson. The Sheriff knows first hand the importance of strong faith in this line of work.

Buster Wilson is originally from Rankin County, MS. He has been in the ministry, both pastorates and evangelism/chaplain work since 1972.
He has been the pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Ecru, MS, for the last 7 years. He has also been a nationwide voice talent on the American Family Radio Network for several years. He has an honorary doctorate for his work as a "cross walking" evangelist in 2000, and an earned Doctorate of Ministry from Lake Charles Bible College and Seminary. He is married to the former Pat Robertson of Myrtle, MS, and they have two grown daughters, Whitney and Amberly Collins.
He started in Law Enforcement as an officer in Florence, MS. Then, while pastoring in Laurel, MS, he and others started the Laurel Police Department Chaplain Corp. they also started the MS Association of Law Enforcement Chaplains, which he and Sheriff Johnson are reviving as a statewide organization.
While trying to finish seminary, Dr. Wilson graduated from the Texas State Police Academy and went to work for the Arlington, TX Police Department. He later completed the MS Police Academy and has worked with or assisted several departments around the state.
Dr. Wilson has been through many trainings in law enforcement chaplaincy and will be working with the department to develop and implement a world-class ministry to our staff and the community at large.
