The Tupelo/Lee Co. Adult Jail can house approximately 200 prisoners.  We hold prisoners for not only our department but for Tupelo and all other municipalities within our county.  The jail, which was completed in 1997, offers many services to the prisoners who are housed here.  The inmates have access to a library, educational classes, alcohol/drug dependency classes and a courtyard for recreational time. 


Adult Jail - Shift Sergeants - The duty of a Shift Sgt. is supervising their shift.  They handle complaints from the inmates and are ultimately responsible for everything that occurs on that shift. 


Jail - Shift Corporals - The duty of a shift Cpl. is to assist the shift Sgt. during the shift or stand in if the Sgt. is away.  Booking is a primary duty, which entails: ensuring all paperwork is properly done, that court and medical appointments are met, and that inmate and employee needs are met.  Detention Officers are also responsible for fingerprinting and classifying inmates.


Jail - Escort Officers - These officers are responsible  for transportation of inmates, internal movement of inmates, feeding inmates, searching of inmates, distribution of medicine and wherever else there may be a need.


Jail - Booking Officers- The duties of the Booking Officers are to enter all of the inmate's information into the computer system, answer the telephones, write bonds upon an inmate's release and search inmates upon arrival.


Jail - Central Control Officers - The duty of these officers are ultimately to provide security of the jail.  They are in charge of opening the entry and exit doors leading to the secure parts of the jail.


Jail - Pod Officers - The duties of the Pod Officers are to oversee the areas where inmates are housed and to enforce the housing unit rules for the inmates.


Commissary Officer - Commissary Officer Valeria Bramlett oversees this division where her duties are to order and distribute all commissary orders from the inmates;   opening, examining, logging and distributing all incoming and outgoing inmate mail; responsible for keeping up with and dispersing the profit from the sales of the commissary items; and maintaining the law library.


Property Officer - Officer Valeria Bramlett also oversees this division.  She checks all incoming personal property for contraband; passes out all incoming property to inmates and logs these items; and oversees the distribution of all personal hygiene items to inmates and the changing of inmate linens and uniforms.
